Self Image Series Part 5: Personal Life

ree

Our self image has now come full circle. We have covered our health, professional, financial, and spiritual self-image thus far. The next & final topic is our personal life.

How does our self-image relate to our personal life? Simple: who we associate with tends to be a self-reflection of how we view ourselves. If we associate ourselves with people who exhibit positive attitudes, we tend to view ourselves in a positive manner as well. That is a prime example of positive energy attracting other positive energy in a room. If you do not believe me, try observing a room full of happy people and see if that happy energy is not contagious. A great example would be a wedding; odds are that positive energy in the room is spreading like wildfire to everyone!

Conversely, if we associate with people with negative attitudes, we tend to have a poorer self image. If you are constantly around people who view the world in a negative light, and either blame others for their woes or blame themselves - it would be highly likely those attitudes are brushing off on you as well.

We all end up adapting to our environments over time. That is part of the reason why a negative self-image may be attributed to our time spent with our group of friends, our family, and sometimes our significant other. Of course, the opposite end of the spectrum is true as well; we can exhibit positive self-images from being in a positive environment. It may not happen intentionally, but our attitudes and views of the world can be shaped based on our associations.

All of this is to say, it would be beneficial to pay attention to who we associate with for the sake of our self image. Our relationships in our personal lives implicitly and explicitly shape who we are, and ultimately how we view ourselves. Our relationships with other people make a big difference in our lives, so choose those relationships consciously!
